Richard Sykes, Managing Director, Carillion Facilities Management - Carillion plc

Richard is currently Managing Director of Carillion UK’s Facilities Management business. The business is just over £1bn and has 12,000 employees from both public and private sectors.

After gaining a BSc (Hons) degree in Quantity Surveying, Richard joined Taylor Woodrow. He initially worked on a number of prestigious construction projects such as the award-winning Cranfield Library (with Foster Partnership) and Smithfield Market refurbishment. He helped form Taylor Woodrow’s Facilities Management (TWFM) business in 1995 and in 2000 he became Managing Director of the business. Richard strategically grew and positioned TWFM as one of the key market leaders in facilities management. He subsequently achieved an MBA and was promoted to the Executive Board of Taylor Woodrow in 2006 where he took responsibility for the business's construction and FM operations as well as driving Taylor Woodrow’s people agenda forward.

Richard joined Carillion at the start of 2009 as Managing Director of the Government Services (Health, Defence & Education) and Consultancy (Enviros & TPS) businesses before taking on the private sector facilities management business in the latter part of 2009. He has driven excellent margin improvements across the Carillion portfolio whilst providing greater strategic focus on the services business.

Richard is Chairman of the Facilities Management Association and a regular speaker at industry events.

A LITTLE KNOWN FACT:

Richard represented England in a coxed rowing four when he was 18. He has also competed in a number of triathlons since he reached mid life crisis!
