FM Briefings - Energy Management

Global energy expertise from WSP

Company: WSP

We operate in over 35 countries and employ more than 9,000 staff.

Sourcing cleaner and greener energy, using less energy and reducing emissions outputs are core components to tackling climate change. In addition, rising energy costs, insecurity of supplies, tightening regulation and intense stakeholder pressure makes energy a strategic issue for any organisation, whether in energy intensive or low energy-use industries.

WSP has the expertise to maximise energy efficiency, reduce emissions, extract value from emissions controls and trading schemes, implement energy strategies, design renewable energy options and deliver regulatory compliance. We can do this whether you are a manufacturer, property developer, facilities manager, bank or retailer. With our strong track record within property and infrastructure, we have specialist expertise in the detailed design of energy technology and installations.

Energy Bureau Service
We conduct energy efficiency audits of corporate operations, of buildings and of industrial processes, and we implement energy management programmes. Of particular interest to facilities managers is our unique and specialist Energy Bureau service that enables organisations to track energy usage from any internet browser.  No more waiting for a quarterly bill to see what you’re using – the Energy Bureau logs readings on a daily basis from your meters and systems.

We have experts that look at every aspect of resource supply. We identify the best technologies and integrate them into projects. Of course, a key part of this is utilising WSP’s extensive knowledge of the renewable technologies available including CHP and tri-generation, solar energy technologies, wind energy, hydro, heat pumps, energy from waste and biofuels.

Achieving carbon reductions
We work with companies of all shapes and sizes to deliver carbon reductions, as well as implementing some innovative approaches to emissions reductions within our own business.

We:

• work with developers, designers and owners of real estate to incorporate the very latest in low carbon design and construction;
• conduct carbon and green house gas footprints that give a clear view of emissions and we use this to devise reduction action plans;
• work with product teams to minimise the carbon intensity and emissions from products;
• help organisations to be compliant with all local and international legislative responsibilities;
• manage emission trading and offsetting schemes for our clients;
• manage corporate reporting and deliver this against schemes such as the Carbon Disclosure Project.

At WSP we are experts in sustainable development and integrating sustainability into every aspect of the built environment, whether on an individual building, small development, large regeneration scheme, or an entire new city. We provide strategic design and sustainability advice that mitigates the harmful impact of human development, whilst maximising design quality, economic growth, social prosperity and investment returns.  We are able to deliver integrated sustainability strategies using out expertise in transport, waste, water, environmental impacts, renewable energy, carbon and climate change.
